The Oman Logistics Centre of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MOTCIT) on Thursday organised a workshop on the integration of logistics services in the governorates of Muscat and South Al Batinah.

The workshop was held as part of the efforts to organise all transport services — land, sea and air — in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the National Logistics Strategy 2040.

The workshop discussed challenges facing the businesses in the sector, short and long-term opportunities, and initiatives to boost in-country value.

It may be noted that the contribution of the logistics sector to the Gross Domestic Product in 2022 was RO 1.5 billion or seven per cent of the GDP, while the Sultanate’s ranking in the competitiveness index is 53, while for the trade facilitation index, the Sultanate was rated the first in the Gulf.

The workshop presented a report on the movement of goods through the ports of the governorates of Muscat and South Al Batinah in 2021.

The total exports of the Sultanate of Oman via Muscat were 56 million tonnes, and the total shipments transiting through the ports of Muscat Governorate were 2,190,000 tonnes. The total imports through the ports of South Al Batinah were 4,353,000 tonnes.

The workshop was attended by Engineer Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology; Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport; Eng Ahmed bin Hassan al Theeb, Vicepresident of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, and Shaikh Saif bin Humair Al Shehhi, Governor of South Al Batinah.
