Oman Club, Ahli Sidab enter first division final

Defending champions Oman Club and Ahli Sidab will meet in the final of the 20222023 first division handball league championsh­ip on Wednesday. The match will start in the main indoor hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex at 6 pm.

Both teams secured spot in the final after Oman Club topped the league order in its final stage as the Muscatbase­d team managed to have 16 points, followed by their neighbours Ahli Sidab who snatched the other ticket to the final. Muscat came in third place as they suffered a 23-19 defeat against the group second-placed Ahli Sidab.

Al Shabab were dropped to the second division league as they lost to Nizwa club 21-29.

HH Sayyid Fahar bin Fatik al Said will be the chief guest for the final in presence of Dr Said al Shahri, Chairman of

Oman Handball Associatio­n (OHA), and other officials.

On the other hand, the matches of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth handball shield championsh­ip for this season began on Friday with six games.

Salalah managed to end their opening game against Dhofar with a huge 50-13 win, while Al Ittihad snatched a 35-15 victory over Mirbat in another game in Dhofar Governorat­e. Nizwa edged Qurayat 31-21 while Masirah managed to register a crucial 30-18 win over Al Talieah club. Al Bashayer thrashed Saham 47-15 in another match while Al Shabab and Al Musannah fixture did not take place as both teams withdrew.

Ahli Sidab were champions of the previous edition of the 2021-22 ministry’s handball shield championsh­ip as they beat Oman Club 25-24 in the final in March 2022. Muscat club finished in third place.
