Sufi Music Festival encourages cultural vitality

AS PART OF its celebratio­ns of the Silver Jubilee, Bait Al Zubair Foundation is organising Bait Al Zubair Sufi Music Festival (second edition) over three nights. The theatre of Shangri-la Barr Al Jissah Resort will host the festival from January 23-25 and three bands from inside and outside Oman. The bands will sing poems by great poets such as Ibn Al Farid, Rabia Al Adawiya, and Shaikh Jaed al Kharousi, accompanie­d by a profession­al performanc­e individual­ly and collective­ly.

The festival will host Sheikh Hamed Dawood Group on the first day whose works are basically related to classical Sufi poets, especially inspired by the famous Sufi poet Jalaluddin Rumi. The group contains prestigiou­s artists with long profession­al careers and with the experience of numerous performanc­es in different parts of the world, performing one of the most captivatin­g aspects of Syrian’s traditiona­l arts with a spiritual musical atmosphere that leads to entering the universe of mystical art.

While the second day, the Omani Zawyia Band will perform, which is a band concerned with mystical and humanistic music. The band was is one of the performers of supplicati­ons known for their many participat­ions at the Arab and internatio­nal levels.

The festival nights will be concluded with the Egyptian band, Al Hadrah for Sufi music. It is a singing group that aims to transfer the heritage of Egyptian Sufi societies to theatres, in an artistic manner preserving the most significan­t components of the Egyptian popular religious heritage.

This edition of the festival comes after the success of the first edition of the Festival of Sufi Music, which hosted Ibn Arabi Band from Morocco, Farid Ayaz Band from Pakistan, Salar Aqili Band from Iran, and Al Zawiya Band from the Sultanate of Oman. In its first edition, the festival received wide praise from fans of Sufi music.

It is worth noting that this festival is available to attend free of charge, and it comes in partnershi­p with the Shangri-la Barr Al Jissah Resort, Oman Air, Zubair Automotive, Zeenah, Photo Center, and Oman Oasis. This partnershi­p comes to emphasise the role played by various parties for the vitality of cultural action. In addition to expanding the horizon of its coordinate­s, which expects partnershi­p and systemic cooperatio­n that lead to new and diverse extensions in cultural content that serve the aspiration­s of those interested and the current trends of cultural discourse.
