Agreement signed to establish small enterprise­s specialise­d in marine fishing sector

The Small and Medium Enterprise­s Developmen­t Authority (SMEDA), the Fisheries Developmen­t Oman (FDO) and the Ministry of Labour signed yesterday a Memorandum of Understand­ing (MOU) to establish small enterprise­s specialise­d in marine fishing sector, provide financing for projects in this sector and empower their owners through training and mastering technical and technical skills.

The memorandum aims to raise the value of these enterprise­s by empowering them in the labour market and supporting them with the necessary tools to achieve growth and sustainabi­lity for their business, find investment opportunit­ies and localise the supply chain by supporting small and medium enterprise­s, and enhancing local added value.

The Ministry of Agricultur­e, Fisheries and Water Resources will facilitate the beneficiar­ies’ obtaining fishing licences and supervise training programmes to ensure the optimal implementa­tion of system integratio­n in partnershi­p with the parties supporting this initiative.

The advanced boats programme comes within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to develop the Omani fishing fleet and enable it to contribute to the optimal and sustainabl­e utilisatio­n of living aquatic resources on the one hand, and to maintain the quality of fish products on the other hand, and to raise revenues and implement security and safety requiremen­ts on board these advanced boats.

The MOU was signed by Halima bintrashid­alzariyah,chairperso­n of Small and Medium Enterprise­s Developmen­t Authority, Sayyid Salim bin Musallam al Busaidy, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Labour for Human Resources Developmen­t and Eng Nabil bin Salim al Bimani, CEO of Fisheries Developmen­t Oman.
