Agreement signed to establish small enterprises specialised in marine fishing sector

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), the Fisheries Development Oman (FDO) and the Ministry of Labour signed yesterday a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish small enterprises specialised in marine fishing sector, provide financing for projects in this sector and empower their owners through training and mastering technical and technical skills.

The memorandum aims to raise the value of these enterprises by empowering them in the labour market and supporting them with the necessary tools to achieve growth and sustainability for their business, find investment opportunities and localise the supply chain by supporting small and medium enterprises, and enhancing local added value.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources will facilitate the beneficiaries’ obtaining fishing licences and supervise training programmes to ensure the optimal implementation of system integration in partnership with the parties supporting this initiative.

The advanced boats programme comes within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to develop the Omani fishing fleet and enable it to contribute to the optimal and sustainable utilisation of living aquatic resources on the one hand, and to maintain the quality of fish products on the other hand, and to raise revenues and implement security and safety requirements on board these advanced boats.

The MOU was signed by Halima bintrashidalzariyah,chairperson of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, Sayyid Salim bin Musallam al Busaidy, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Labour for Human Resources Development and Eng Nabil bin Salim al Bimani, CEO of Fisheries Development Oman.
