Sufi Music fest begins as a mark of tribute to Rumi
As a mark of tribute to Sufi poet Jalaluddeen Rumi, the 2nd edition of Bait al Zubair Sufi Music Festival began at the Shangri-la Barr al Jissah Resort on Monday.
Syria’s Shaikh Hamed Dawood Group paid tribute to the legend with dulcet Sufi vocal and instrumental performances as the dancers danced with expressive gestures and actions on the first day.
The performers mesmerised the audience with smooth rendition of the Sufi spiritual music and singing. The performances took the audience to different feeling levels.
The works of Dawood are basically related to classical Sufi poets, especially inspired by the famous Sufi poets and the group contains artists with repute who have performed several performances across the world.
Two more national and international bands are all set to present poems of great poets like Ibn al Farid, Rabia al Adawiya and Shaikh Jaed al Kharousi, accompanied by a professional performance individually and collectively at the theatre of Shangri-la till January 25.
OMANI BAND
On Tuesday, the second day, Zawyia, an Omani band concerned with mystical and humanistic music, performed to the hearts’ content and elevated the emotions to spiritual wellbeing.
The Zawyia band was founded in 2015 and has local and Arab participation, including the Fez International Festival of Spiritual
Music in Morocco. The wellknown Tanzanian artist Yahya Baihaqi Hussain is participating with the band, where he is one of the performers of supplications known for their many participants at the Arab and international levels.
On the third night, the concluding evening, the Egyptian band, Al Hadrah for Sufi music will mesmerise the audience with their performance. It is a singing group that aims to transfer the heritage of Egyptian Sufi societies to theatres, in an artistic manner preserving the most significant components of the Egyptian popular religious heritage.
The second edition of the festival comes after the success of the first edition of the Festival of Sufi Music, which hosted Ibn Arabi Band from Morocco, Farid Ayaz Band from Pakistan, Salar Aqili Band from Iran and Al Zawiya Band from the Sultanate of Oman. The first edition of the Sufi Music Festival received wide praise from fans of Sufi music across the country and the region.
Entry to the festival is free of charge, and a number of supporters have joined hands with the Shangri-la Barr al Jissah Resort. They include Oman Air, Zubair Automotive, Zeenah, Photo Centre and Oman Oasis. This partnership comes to emphasise the role played by various parties for the vitality of Oman’s cultural scenario.
