efforts to make Oman attractive to investments in the communications and information technology sector. The action includes encouraging international companies specialised in semiconductors and electronic chips to establish projects in Oman, he said.

This will in turn enhance economic diversification, augment the gross domestic product and provide employment for Omanis, while at the same time localising technology, he observed.

Semiconductors have certain electrical properties that make them basic components of computers and other electronic devices. A semiconductor is usually a solid chemical element or compound that conducts electricity under certain conditions, making it an ideal means of controlling electrical current and electrical appliances like telephones, computers, cars and planes, as well as weapons.
