Al Ribat Initiative to help 306 pilgrims from Social Security Segment
As part of the annual initiative called “Rabat” initiated by His Majesty late Sultan Qaboos, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MOARA) will provide financial support to 311 Omani citizens protected under the social insurance by the Ministry of Social Development (MOSD), enabling them to fulfil their dream of performing Haj this year.
“With this initiative, we make sure that any Omani national is not withdrawing from his wish to perform Haj in the year of Hijri 1444 because of shortage of funds as the initiative confirms the ability of the Awqaf to contribute to sustainable development,” said Dr Mohammed bin Said al Maamari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.
The aim of this initiative is to ensure that no Omani national who wishes to perform the Haj pilgrimage is unable to do so due to financial constraints. Haj holds great importance in a believer’s life, and through the Rabat initiative, the Awqaf affirms its commitment to contribute to sustainable development and improve the lives of people in all countries.
A total amount of RO 120,000 has been allocated for the initiative this year, specifically for pilgrims from the Sultanate of
Oman. Additionally, an amount of RO 50,000 will be sourced from the Waqf Fund to cover the expenses, along with potential donations from charitable institutions and individuals in society.
Wa’il bin Saif al Harrasi, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, stated that this initiative aims to enhance the living standards of the people by helping them fulfil their dreams. He emphasised that this year’s Awqaf represents a new beginning for Waqf in Oman.
The beneficiaries of this initiative are selected from the social security category, registered with the Ministry of Social Development, and approved by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.
The first flight carrying pilgrims from Oman will depart from Muscat on June 14, corresponding to Dhul Qa’ada 25, 1444. This will be followed by regular flights carrying other pilgrims in the subsequent days. The initial flight will transport officials from various ministries, the Royal Oman Police, and other delegates who will be performing the holy Haj this year.
Following the closure of the registration on March 5, the Ministry received a total of 33,536 applications, including 29,930 requests from Omani citizens and 3,606 requests from residents, for this year’s Haj.
