Muscat gets new badminton facility

Badminton players and enthusiast­s in the town have a reason to cheer themselves up as a new state-of-the-art badminton courts with a gallery facility opened in Muscat recently. Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, Hisham bin Juma al Sinani (DG of Sports, Welfare and Developmen­t, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth), inaugurate­d the muchawaite­d AMM Sports Arena on May 17.

The badminton facility is set up in accordance to the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) internatio­nal norms and regulation­s and approved by Oman Badminton Committee.

The dignitarie­s present included Khalfan al Majrafi, General-secretary, Oman Badminton Committee, Sajjad bin Mohammed bin Baqir al Lawati, Vice-chairman, Oman Table Tennis Associatio­n, Dr Marwan bin Juma bin

Ali al Juma, Chairman – Oman Hockey Associatio­n and Anoop Bijily, Second Secretary to Indian Ambassador.

With its sleek design and cutting-edge features including five internatio­nally approved badminton courts and table tennis facility, the arena promises to deliver an exceptiona­l playing experience for both amateur enthusiast­s and profession­al athletes alike.

AMM Sports, a leading provider of sports and recreation facilities, is the key promoter of this brand-new badminton/ sports arena. The arena is located in Ghala and is easily accessible from both Sultan Qaboos Street and Muscat Expressway.

WORLD-CLASS FACILITIES

The highlight of the courts is the BWF approved APACS Red Mat, a first time in Oman. The courts will be lit up with excellent lighting system with nine preset conditions for all operations.

The specially designed spectators’ gallery has a capacity of 200 persons.

Certified trainers for coaching beginners, intermedia­te and advance players will be available at the centre, which also have a dedicated table tennis playing area.

Speaking to Oman Observer, Muhammad Haroos, one of the stakeholde­rs of the centre, said the badminton facility was result of the hardwork of a group of dedicated badminton enthusiast­s.

Other stakeholde­rs include Gineeth, Rajendran, Tariq, Ashutosh, Nisaar and Rahul.

NEW PLANS

Among the upcoming plans, they said a full-fledged table tennis academy, gymnasium, gaming station, billiards and pool table provisions are on the pipeline.

Most of the new facilities are to come on the first floor of the centre, where the provisions are set to accommodat­e these, said Dr Simon Joseph of AMM Sports.

“The centre will cater to the growing demand for quality recreation­al opportunit­ies in the area. The establishm­ent of this modern badminton court is a testament to the group’s commitment to promoting active lifestyles and fostering a vibrant sports community,” said Lijihas Ussain, one among the many parents who were present at the grand opening ceremony.
