925 released under Fak Kurbah initiative
The Fak Kurbah initiative, organised by the Oman Lawyers Association (OLA), concluded its 10th edition, successfully securing the release of 925 prisoners who were incarcerated for minor financial offenses.
The released inmates, hailing from various governorates across the Sultanate of Oman, met the eligibility criteria for release under the initiative. This achievement was announced during a press conference held at Al Wahat Club in Athaiba, where Dr Mohammed bin Ibrahim al Zadjali, the Head of the initiative and Chairman of OLA, addressed the media.
Dr Al Zadjali expressed gratitude to the Omani society for showcasing solidarity and generosity towards those in need. He emphasised that Fak Kurbah exemplifies the unity and support among the people of Oman during challenging times.
Since its inception, the initiative has successfully secured the release of 5,894 prisoners who faced imprisonment or were on the verge of being imprisoned due to financial claims. Dr Al Zadjali extended his appreciation to individuals and institutions whose efforts contributed to the initiative’s success.
The released cases were distributed across all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. The Governorate of Muscat witnessed the highest number of 194 released cases followed by the Al Batinah North (191) Al Batinah South (122) and Al Dhahirah (97).
There were 87 cases from Al Buraimi Governorate, Al Dakhiliyah (79), Al Sharqiyah North (59), and the Al Sharqiyah South (40). The remaining cases were distributed among Dhofar (33), Al Wusta (20) and Musandam (3).
Dr Al Zadjali highlighted that community participation has been a fundamental goal of the initiative. He expressed appreciation for the constructive collaboration and support received from government and private institutions, journalists and social media influencers in spreading the initiative’s humanitarian message. The Fak Kurbah team diligently worked to streamline fundraising and donation procedures, ensuring accessibility to all segments of society through platforms like the Athar platform powered by the Thawani application.
