Bringing on track misplaced authority

- Abdulaziz Al Jahdhami An author, columnist, creative writer, translator and a communications professional

The Almighty Allah is the only one who bestows human beings their fates and fortunes in life whether it is pleasing or displeasing them! At the end it is part of one’s experience; whatever people come across is always for their own good regardless how hard or enjoyable it is. The lesson behind every experience will be discovered sooner or later. This is how life is treating people and showing them the easy and hard way of learning things! However, some people pretend that life is unfair, though it is people who are unjust to one another.

Case in a point to people’s unfairness is placing authority in incompetent ones, which is even beyond their control. Then, one wonders why that is happening; is it their luck or a responsibility being misplaced on them.

Thus, nobody can change anything in that, but to accept that fact as it is. Irony of fate; perhaps it is all part of a hidden secret that life usually brings to humans! It is all about everyone’s chance in life as some are getting good fortunes while others are just a mean behind making others’ dreams come true.

Human beings are paving each other’s pathways to live their destiny, make a living and fulfil ambitions. This has been clearly highlighted in the Holy Quran, “We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others.

But the Mercy of the lord is better than the (wealth) which they amass”. In this regard, whatever one gets is a blessing that works well for him even if that is not what one wants. Those who get superior and given the authority should be more responsible and competent in whatever they do.

As the saying goes “With authority comes responsibility”, they are obliged to shoulder the responsibility of the given authority, team and job-related tasks. Otherwise, they don’t deserve getting the power as they prove their inability to hold leadership position. Here comes the irresponsibility and incompetency of certain people who are uncommitted to the authority given to them.

Their recklessness comes in different forms, some of which are the unwillingness to take decisions, misleading their teams and disability to handle tasks or solve problems.

Unfortunately, today there are many of this kind who get such a position by fortune or otherwise. Though, they are unable to handle the position with such big authority and responsibility. That is why they could be challenged sometimes by their own team members who are more competent, responsible and trustworthy. This will be very irritating and frightening even to the boss.

Always a blind person is unable to guide others and show them the way. Instead his colleagues will be unsafe with him because they can’t rely on him or even feel the sense of belonging to his leadership.

As Mother Teresa said, “If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” Although people’s talents in different walks of life complement each other’s needs, when it comes to leadership it should be given to a competent person.

A boss cannot be always a leader as he/she might be able to execute things alone, but unable to lead a team.

Thus, a leadership and authority should be given to people who are more responsible, reliable, wise, inspiring and self-confident.

Otherwise, the return will be only disappointment and distraction to the team instead! A leader is always the one who shoulders the responsibility, but not who becomes a burden! A boss should always lead by example.

A LEADER IS ALWAYS THE ONE WHO SHOULDERS THE RESPONSIBILITY, BUT NOT WHO BECOMES A BURDEN! A BOSS SHOULD ALWAYS LEAD BY EXAMPLE
