Oman, Morocco highlight ties through joint postage stamp

- BALQEES AL ORAIMI

Oman Post, the national operator of postal services, announced the inauguration of the joint postage stamp with the Kingdom of Morocco in celebration of the deep fraternal ties and common cultural history that link the two brotherly countries on the sidelines of the Postal Leaders Forum.

The stamp, having a unique design, embodies essential elements common to both the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Morocco, as the idea of the stamp revolved around highlighting the first spot where the sun rises in the Arab world in the Sultanate of Oman and the last spot where the sun sets in the Kingdom of Morocco, which symbolises the breadth and unity of Arab homeland.

It contains the most prominent cultural monuments of both countries displaying the main gate of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the historic Sohar ship, the view of the sunrise in the Ras Al Hadd district, the ancient Sohar Fort, and the Royal Opera House Muscat, while on the other hand the stamp includes landmarks of the Kingdom of Morocco, the exquisite Moroccan architectural style.

It has Moroccan doors that indicate, in terms of the way they are built and engineered, the diversity of the Kingdom’s cultural branches, in addition to the Al Khair Mosque located in the Guerguerat region, which embodies the last point of sunset views in Morocco.

Shaikh Ibrahim bin Sultan al Hosani, Acting CEO of Oman Post and Asyad Express, explained that the launch of this joint commemorative stamp embodies the deep bonds of mutual brotherhood between the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Morocco and the similar and rooted heritage between them, indicating that the stamp, with its distinctive symbolism of unity of visions and mutual respect, is thus opening new paths on our common journey of progress.

Ahmed Amin Benjloun Touimi, Director-general of the Moroccan Post Group, said this collaboration is not only a postage stamp but rather a bridge linking two ancient cultures with their historical values as well as a common future vision.
