Royal attention to educational sector hailed
HONOURABLE LADY GREETS OMANI TEACHERS
Her Highness The Honourable Lady Assayida Ahd Abdullah Hamed al Busaidi, Spouse of the Sultan of Oman, on Saturday congratulated male and female teachers on the occasion of Omani Teacher’s Day.
The greetings message reads as follows: “We are pleased to congratulate teachers, both male and female, in our dear country on the occasion of the celebration marking Omani Teacher’s Day, which falls on February 24. We value teachers’ central role in the educational process and their abundant contribution in grooming future cadres, empowering them with useful knowledge, sound values and sciences, so that they could in turn contribute to the service of the nation.
“We wish teachers success in accomplishing their important mission. We also extend our deep thanks to the administrative bodies and all personnel operating in the field of education. We appreciate their tangible efforts in upgrading the education system. “We wish that the endeavours of all be crowned with success. Many happy returns of the occasion.”
MUSCAT: Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, voiced deep thanks and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for the great attention the education sector has received and for designating February 24 each year as an official holiday for the teaching and administrative staff in public and private schools in recognition of their efforts in performing the roles entrusted to them.
Delivering a speech on the occasion of the Omani Teacher’s Day, the minister praised the efforts made by teachers and their devotion in performing their educational mission to raise students in a sound manner and prepare them to contribute to building the comprehensive development process in this dear country.
The minister also appreciated the generous congratulations extended by Her Highness The Honourable Lady, Spouse of the Sultan of Oman, to the teachers on this happy occasion as well as her deep appreciation for the efforts made by the administrative bodies and all workers in the educational field.
Celebrating the Omani Teacher’s Day marks an official recognition of teachers and appreciation of the active role they carry out in the educational process being the primary driver in the educational system.
A total of 61,195 teachers work in public schools of whom 18,800 are males and 42,395 females. The number of administrative staff in public schools stands at 10,652 including 4,306 males and 6,346 females. The number of teachers increased by 7.7 per cent growth rate during 2020-2023 with an average annual growth rate of 1.9.
The Ministry of Education pays attention to developing teachers’ performance. The number of full-time teachers who are holding master’s degrees stood at 2,231 teachers by January 2022 while teachers with doctoral degrees stood at 337.
This is in addition to 1,483 parttime teachers with master’s degrees and 166 part-time teachers holding doctoral degrees.
