OIC communique calls for end to Gaza war

-

The Sultanate of Oman on Sunday concluded its participation in the extraordinary meeting of information ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries.

Held in Istanbul, the meeting discussed the Israeli occupation forces’ targeting journalists in the occupied Palestinian territories with the aim of misleading international public opinion.

Oman’s delegation at the meeting was headed by Mohammed Said al Balushi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information.

The meeting’s communique called on the rest of the world to recognise the State of Palestine and take concrete measures to stop the Israeli destructive war on the Gaza Strip, ongoing since last October 7.

The communique affirmed that that “The Two-state Solution is the only way to guarantee permanent, comprehensive and stable peace and security in the region”. It urged all countries to recognise the independent, sovereign State of Palestine, on the basis of the 1967 borders, with Al Quds Al Sharqiya (East Jerusalem) as its capital.

The communique condemned “the deliberate Israeli attacks on journalists”. It stressed “the need for the international community to take immediate action to hold the Israeli occupation forces accountable for violation of international law, notably by targeting journalists”. It called for conducting an immediate investigation and protecting all journalists.

The communique also denounced the ongoing military aggression launched by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people. It condemned the systematic oppression, massacres and genocide of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip and in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem.”

The communique also rejected “the systematic disinformation campaigns launched by the Israeli occupation forces and the country’s spreading false information and fake news to cover up its brutality and the genocidal massacres it is committing in the Gaza Strip”.
