Oman Handball League kicks off on Wednesday

- SPORTS REPORTER MUSCAT, FEB 26

The first round of the 2023-2024 Oman Handball First Division League will kick off on Wednesday evening with three matches.

In the first match, Salalah will face Muscat followed by Nizwa vs Ahli Sidab and Khasab Vs Al Seeb. All matches will be held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.

The Oman Handball Association Competitions Committee announced the schedule, rules and regulations of the First Division League with the participation of 7 clubs: Muscat, Al Seeb, Ahli Sidab, Oman, Khasab, Salalah and Nizwa. The league will be played in a two-stage system. In the first stage, the seven clubs will play a single round robin league. In the second stage, the clubs that finish in the top four positions will play a double round robin league (home and away). The club that finishes in seventh place will be relegated to the Second Division.

The team with the highest number of points wins the league championship. If two or more teams are tied on points for any position, the ranking will be determined on the basis of the total number of points obtained by each team from the tied teams in the matches played between them only.

If the tie continues, the goal difference (goals scored minus goals conceded) between the tied teams in the matches will be taken. If the tie continues, the goal difference in all matches will be taken after excluding all goals from the matches of the team that withdraws from any match. If the tie continues, the team that scores more goals in all matches after excluding all goals from the matches of the team that withdraws from any match will be ranked higher. If the tie still persists, the precedence will be determined by drawing lots in the presence of representatives of the tied teams.

Points in official league matches organised by the association are calculated as follows: two points for the winning team and one point for each team in a draw. The withdrawing team will not be awarded any points.

The team that wins first place will be awarded a shield, a gold medal and a cash prize of RO 10,000. The runners-up will get a silver medal and RO 5,000, while the third place will receive a bronze medal and RO 3,000. The coach of the winning team will get RO 250.
