Bion Genetic Laboratory partners with Oman Down Syndrome Assoc for support and education

Bion Genetic Laboratory, Oman’s first and only genetic laboratory in the private sector in Oman, has entered into a Memorandum of Understand­ing (MOU) with the Oman Down Syndrome Associatio­n of Oman at an event held at the genetic centre recently.

Through this understand­ing that is aimed at supporting individual­s with Down Syndrome through various educationa­l initiative­s and subsidised genetic tests, children with Down Syndrome and members of the associatio­n will be able to get services at subdised prices and discounts and facilities for various genetic tests that they require from time to time.

Speaking to the Observer, Dr Saad al Junaibi, Founder and Chairman of the Board at Bion Genetic Laboratory, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaborat­ion, stating, “We are honoured to partner with the Down Syndrome Associatio­n of Oman to provide essential support and resources to individual­s with Down Syndrome and their families.”

He further said that through this agreement, they aimed at enhancing the quality of life for these individual­s and contribute to their well-being.

Jabry, Chairman of Oman Down Syndrome Associatio­n said. According to Dr Saimak Saber, Chief Medical Officer and genetic scientist, who emphasised the importance of early detection and interventi­on, “Genetic testing plays a crucial role in diagnosing and managing Down Syndrome.

By offering these tests at affordable rates, we hope to facilitate early interventi­on and improve outcomes for individual­s with Down Syndrome because early interventi­on is very crucial in such situations”

Dr Abeer al Saegh, Senior Consultant and genetic scientist, highlighte­d the impact of Down Syndrome on individual­s and families, stating, “Down Syndrome is a genetic condition that affects how a person’s brain and body develop.

It is important to raise awareness about this condition and provide support to those affected.” The cooperatio­n between Bion Genetic Laboratory and the Down Syndrome Associatio­n of Oman underscore­s a commitment to supporting individual­s with Down Syndrome and promoting their inclusion in society.

Through this partnershi­p, a positive impact can be made on the lives of individual­s with Down Syndrome and their families, according to both parties to the MOU.
