Meeting discusses steps to boost access to public health services

Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health, and governors from around Oman on Thursday held a consultati­ve meeting to discuss cooperatio­n and coordinati­on about the best means to serve the public interest. The two sides considered means to unify efforts and ease local communitie­s’ access to basic needs, including health services, in accordance with internatio­nal standards.

The meeting also touched on the ministry’s efforts to develop the health sector in various governorat­es, enhance integratio­n among the governorat­es and study opportunit­ies and available resources to achieve sustainabl­e developmen­t in the health sector.

The meeting included two sessions. During the first session, titled ‘Future Aspiration­s and Opportunit­ies’, the Health Minister gave a lecture on the ministry’s strategic approaches.

The second session, themed “Sustainabl­e health developmen­t, investment and partnershi­p”, included presentati­ons by three officials from the Ministry of Health. Dr Said bin Harib al Lamki, Under-secretary for Health Affairs, spoke about ‘Measures for the developmen­t of health services in the governorat­es: The reality and aspiration­s’.

Meanwhile, Dr Ahmed bin Salim al Mandhari, Undersecre­tary for Planning and Health Organisati­on, outlined the ministry’s role in health planning and related challenges and opportunit­ies.

For his part, Sulaiman bin Nasser al Hiji, Under-secretary for Administra­tive and Financial Affairs, gave a presentati­on on the role of the Ministry of Health in providing financial and human resources and securing their sustainabi­lity.
