MUSCAT: With the launch of the Ford Edge in Oman, Ford Motor Company has proven that a midsize SUV can be stylish and greatlooking too.

The 2016 Edge has been reimagined with a stronger, more athletic shape. It has been retooled to meet higher expectations for quality, and reengineered to add more features and technologies for a more rewarding driving experience, says a press release.

“The original Edge was our first entry into the world of crossover utilities – a technologically advanced vehicle that was the perfect blend of sedan comfort and efficiency with SUV functionality,” said Jim Benintende, president of Ford Middle East and Africa. “Now, we are building on that success, and building on the emotional appeal of the vehicle by offering more of the technology our customers want in a package that meets the highest expectations for quality and craftsmanship.”

According to a spokesperson from Arabian Car Marketing, the dealers of Ford in Oman, “Edge has always been one of most successful models. It has remained a favourite for customers across age groups due to its design, features and driving dynamics. With the new 2016 Ford Edge we are confident that owners will highly appreciate the levels of sophistication added to this wonder and will not just love to drive this brilliant vehicle but look forward to experiencing it for even the smallest reason, every day.”

Central to the improved driving dynamics is an entirely new body structure and redesigned suspension – front and rear – developed specifically to better isolate road imperfection and absorb noise without compromising handling. This means less noise, vibration and harshness characteristics, giving Edge customers a quieter, more substantial ride. As a result, Edge is well suited for an everyday commute, but ready to take on when the road opens up.

The 2016 Edge will be available in four trim levels. These include SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport and for the first time Titanium series to meet market demand for more premium offerings.

The all-new Edge will feature three engine options, two of which are new powerplants– A standard normally aspirated 3.5-litre V6 engine, A twin-scroll 2.0-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder and a 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6. All will be equipped with dual exhaust. All three engines are paired to Ford’s Select Shift six-speed automatic transmission with paddle-shift activation. Drivers will have the ability to manually select gears via raceinspired paddles on the steering wheel. The paddle-shift system is standard on all models.

The Select Shift transmission features two modes of operation – drive and sport. Sport mode offers a more aggressive shift pattern, allowing the engine to rev higher during acceleration, and hold lower gears longer to support spirited, fast-paced sessions.

The standard all-wheel-drive system for the new Edge is fulltime, on-demand and seamless – there are no knobs or switches to activate. An electronically controlled clutch, which can engage faster than a human can blink, transfers power between the front and rear axles, sending up to 100 percent of the power front or back.

The 2016 Edge is a technology leader for Ford, with a suite of standard and available technologies designed to improve the driving experience and the level of occupant comfort. Technologies being offered for the first time include enhanced active park assist, side parking sensors and a front camera with washer.

In the Edge key technology features (available on select models) include Active Grille Shutters; Air curtain; Blind Spot Information System; New 180-degree Front Camera with washer; Standard Rear Camera; Cross-traffic alert; Enhanced Active Park Assist; Forward and Reverse Sens- ing Systems; Hands-free liftgate; Heated and Cooled Front Seats; Lane-keeping System; Side Parking Sensors; SYNC with MyFord Touch; Auto-park Brake; Active Glove Box Knee Airbag; AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control and Curve Control.

Overall, the 2016 Edge represents a significant move forward in both material and visual quality. The dashboard and centre console have also been carefully designed and shaped to look like one thin, streamlined piece.

A central 8-inch LCD touch screen supporting SYNC with MyFord Touch is now available on even more models.

Storage areas have been improved throughout the cabin with a covered media bin on top of the centre stack; an open pass-throughstorage area beneath the climate controls; an open storage area on the instrument panel below and to the left of the steering wheel; and large pockets on each door.

Customers looking forward to experiencing the all-new 2016 Ford Edge are encouraged to visit any of the Ford showrooms.
