Bank Muscat launches initiative to train its staff in sign language

MUSCAT: Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, in step with its dynamic ‘Let’s Do More’ vision and commitment to innovative customer service, announced a first-of-its-kind initiative in the banking sector in Oman to train employees in sign language to serve hearing impaired customers.

Joining hands with the Omani Society for the Hearing Impaired, the unique social responsibi­lity programme is aimed at enhancing banking service excellence to physically challenged segments of society, says a press release.

Targeting branches across the Sultanate with the aim of having a sign language speaker in the main branches, a select group of employees drawn from branches across the Sultanate will undergo the sign language training to be held in associatio­n with Al Tawasul Institute for Training.

Commenting on the programme, Ahmed Faqir Al Balushi, deputy general manager – Human Resources, said: “As the flagship bank serving the largest banking community in the Sultanate, Bank Muscat is committed to addressing all customer requiremen­ts. The bank’s ‘Let’s Do More’ vision is a clear roadmap to maintain the leadership position with innovative services, making banking easier and convenient for all customers.”

Al Balushi added: “Over the years, Bank Muscat has adopted innova- tive strategies to equip employees to handle unique customer service requiremen­ts. The bank has developed a comprehens­ive learning and developmen­t strategy for skill and knowledge enhancemen­t vis-à-vis the requiremen­t of various department­s.

“Bank Muscat is at the forefront of customer service excellence and strives to continuall­y deliver high quality service to all segments of society.”

Since its inception, the Corporate Social Responsibi­lity department has taken major strides in nurturing a socially responsibl­e culture in the bank, bringing benefits to different segments of society and touching the lives of people.
