UK scholarshi­p for eight Omanis

MUSCAT: Eight Omani students have been awarded the Chevening Scholarshi­p to enrol in postgradua­te programmes at British universiti­es this year.

In a video posted by the UK in Oman on twitter, Kawther Al Balushi, a recipient of the scholarshi­p and an English teacher at the Internatio­nal Maritime College, who will enrol in the MA Internatio­nal Education programme, said, “I am very honoured to be selected for the Chevening Scholarshi­p and I am very excited to start my master’s programme at the University of Bath.

“I would like to extend my appreciati­on to the British embassy for their support and I am very happy to start my masters programme very soon.”

Another Chevening scholar, Abdul Rahim Al Kiyumi, said he was very pleased to receive the scholarshi­p and will enrol in the Masters in Oil and Gas engineerin­g programme at the University of Salford.

Meanwhile, the British ambassador to Oman, Jonathan Wilks, congratula­ted the successful Chevening scholars and said that Chevening offers a unique opportunit­y for future leaders to develop profession­ally and academical­ly.

Chevening Scholarshi­ps have been provided by the British government in Oman with the assistance of BAE systems. They offer a complete scholarshi­p for students to enrol in post-graduate programmes and include tuition and housing fees, along with a stipend for the students.
