Bank Sohar extends support to first scientific conference for students of health professions

-

MUSCAT: Bank Sohar has consistently placed a great importance on supporting the health sector in Oman.

In its most recent contribution, the bank sponsored the recently held first ever scientific conference for students of health professions on Metabolic Syndrome. The two-day conference was held at the Holiday Inn Muscat recently, says a press release.

The conference was organised by Oman Student Society of Health Professions (OSSHP), and launched under the auspices of Dr Rawya bint Saud AlBusaidi, the Minister of Higher Education, and was attended by 300 medical students from across the Sultanate, together with a number of doctors and health specialists from the region. Several VIP guests and sponsors including Mazin Mahmood Al Raisi, senior AGM and head of Marketing & Costumer Experience representing Bank Sohar, also attended the closing ceremony.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Dr Hilal Ali Al Sabti, the executive president of the Oman Medical Speciality Board. As part of the function Mazin Mahmood Al Raisi received a token of appreciation from the organisers on behalf of Bank Sohar for its support.

Commenting on the bank’s support, Munira Abdulnabi Macki, GM of HR and Corporate Support at Bank Sohar said, “Bank Sohar as a whole has always been a keen supporter of the growth of the health sector in the country as well as an active promoter of a healthy lifestyle in the communities in which it operates.

“As a result it is only natural that we offered our support to such an important conference – one that not only fostered the growth of the medical sector, but also brought to light the growing rates of metabolic syndrome; pri- marily brought about by the rise in obesity rates across the globe, including the Sultanate.”

The focus of the event, as the name implies, was on metabolic syndrome – a group of risk factors that raises risk for heart disease and other health problems, such as diabetes and stroke. The first day event was inaugurated with a recitation from the Holy Quran. This was followed by two speeches by Dr Yousuf Al Weshahi, the supervisor of OSSHP, and Dr Majid Salim Al-Badi, the president of OSSHP, respectively.

A short video on OSSHP was then played followed closely by a play on metabolic syndrome.

The two-day conference began immediately after the completion of the opening ceremony and included numerous keynote speeches, papers and workshops involving 13 notable speakers from around the globe.

“On behalf of the bank I would like to congratulate the members of OSSHP on the conclusion of their first ever conference and commend them for a job well done. I would also like to wish them the best of luck and look forward to working with them yet again in their future endeavours,” added Munira Abdulnabi Macki.
