Kunooz Oman extends support to mining expo

MUSCAT: Kunooz Oman Holding, the leadng privately owned mining group in Oman, will be a key contributo­r to the second edition of the Oman Minerals and Mining Exhibition and Conference that is scheduled to be held from January 16 to 18 2017 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The internatio­nal trade event will serve as a business platform for the rapidly expanding mining industry in Oman. The group companies, including associates of Kunooz Oman, Al Rawas Mining, Mihwar Al Wifaq, Majan Mining, Al Rawas Marble and Granite, Salalah Readymix Company, Carmeuse Majan and Al Rawas Transport, Machinery Hiring and Trading will once again be showcasing their products, services and offerings in this event, says a press release.

Al Rawas Mining Company mines and exports gypsum to the Pacifica Asian economies and East Africa; Mihwar Al Wifaq produces and sells highin-demand gabbro in and around Muscat; Majan Mining mines limestone predominan­tly for the India steel industry; Al Rawas Marble and Granite quarries marble, cuts and polishes this for the local and internatio­nal markets; Salalah Readymix Company produces readymix concrete, other concrete products and aggregates and sand for the Dhofar region; Carmeuse Majan manufactur­es lime, and Al Rawas Transport, Machinery Hiring and Trading offers transport and hiring of vehicles and equipment across the Group and to third parties.

Organised by Omanexpo along with Awtad, the conference provides a platform for the mining industry and the regulators to deliberate on the various issues and challenges faced by the sector, explore emerging opportunit­ies and showcase the latest sector developmen­ts. The focus will be on examining the existing and upcom- ing project opportunit­ies in Oman and understand­ing how mining contribute­s to the growth, developmen­t and transforma­tion of the nation. The event will showcase best practices and the finest contributi­ons from local and internatio­nal mining companies with an emphasis on robust techniques to advance the mining industry.

Oman has a definite edge in developing the mining industry with the availabili­ty of minerals in abundance, strategic geographic location, strong infrastruc­ture such as roads and ports and robust manpower with skilled profession­als. The focus now is to ensure that the sector obtains the right investors at the opportune time for heightened benefits. The mining sector in Oman foresees significan­t developmen­t in the next few years.
