Worldwide Photo Walk coming to Muscat in October

- TARIQ ZIAD AL HAREMI

MUSCAT: Photography enthusiasts will be able to join a community of photographers in the first ever Photo Walk in Muscat where taking photos, sharing and learning is highly encouraged.

Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk is an annual event in which photographers from participating cities gather at a point and walk to another location while taking photographs along the way. This gives photographers from different backgrounds and skill levels a chance to interact, learn and share photos with each other.

The walk aims to raise funds for The Springs of Hope Kenya Orphanage that feeds, houses, educates and empowers young orphans to succeed and not just survive. Those who wish to donate could also do so at the Worldwide Photo Walk Website.

Everybody can join

Midhun Mukund, the event’s organiser, said, “Everybody can join. It is not limited to professional photographers, so everyone can take this opportunity to learn some tips and tricks from fellow enthusiasts.”

“There will be professional photographers with us leading the others and they are there to clear any doubts,” Mukund said while explaining about the walk having an educational purpose.

Aside from it being a walk, it is also a competition where photos taken during the event can be uploaded and are judged by Scott Kelby himself.

“Registered walkers can upload their pictures and you can have a winner from every region, Muscat being ours. The pictures will be sent to Scott Kelby to choose from and award the prize to the winner,” Mukund pointed out.

“The main motive is to meet the photographers in town and share information.”

Registration

Photographers or enthusiasts can register at the Worldwide Photo Walk website for the Muscat region at http://worldwidephotowalk.com/walk/muttr/ or they could register on the day of the event, which will make them eligible to enter the competition.

Photo Walk–Muscat will commence at the Riyam Park in Wilayat of Muttrah on October 1 and end in front of the Muttrah Souq the same day.

Registration will open from 4 pm and the walk will begin at 4:30 pm and end at 6pm. Photographers will walk along the Muttrah Corniche, the Gold Souq and the narrow alleyways of the ancient town, as well as other potential spots that could give them a good shot.
