Khimji Paints hosts Caledonian College of Engineering students
MUSCAT: Khimji Paints a division of Khimji Ramdas recently hosted 100 students from the Caledonian College of Engineering as part of a summer programme.
The visit, an initiative in association with Khimji Paints, aimed to educate students on the significance of manufacturing industry and its critical role in any economy, says a press release.
“As a company that always supports and encourages the country’s talented youth, Khimji Paints is once again proud to be so closely involved in the process of helping young talent reach its optimum potential. It is an honour to host students from the Caledonian College of Engineering and be a central, guiding force in decisions that shape their education and career choices,” said M. R. Kamat, general manager - Khimji Paints.
“We showcased our facilities to the next generation professionals as well as the opportunities in the manufacturing sector. We stressed the importance and need to plan and manufacture environmentally safe products. Khimji Paints has been extremely responsible about the government’s green initiative and produces eco-friendly paints. By spending time in the various departments of the factory floor students were given a better understanding of the career prospects in the industry to help them make better decisions regarding their future,” said Bhuvnesh Udeshi, Works Manager at Khimji Paints factory.
“Students like these are the country’s future and it is important to give them the right exposure to various facets of the industry, particularly those pertaining to environment, health and safety. Therefore, the trip sought to familiarise students with important processes such as understanding the impact of hazardous waste, manufacturing by conserving and making the most rational use of resources,” said Sumedh Sakhalkar assistant marketing manager at Khimji Paints.
The students were given a tour of Khimji Paint’s state-of-the-art fac- tory in Rusayl and got a hands-on experience of the shop floor from the assembly line to the engineering and innovation of manufacturing, packaging, logistics and also Khimji Paint’s marketing initiatives.
They also witnessed, first hand, the efficient teamwork carried out by Khimji Paints staff at every level and learned the importance of manufacturing in providing employment for the local economy.
The students visited the R&D laboratory as well as the QC laboratory to gain an understanding into the procedures followed at Quality Control.
At the warehouse they were shown how inventory management works, order execution and the dispatch process.
Khimji Paints has been manufacturing decorative and industrial paints at its Rusayl factory for the last three decades. It manufactures over 100 different products through its modernised plant.
It is an ISO 9001:2008 QMS, ISO 14001:2004 certified company and follows stringent quality processes.
