ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: As tensions between Pakistan and India heighten, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif made clear on Friday that the nation’s leaders would not allow anyone to cast an evil eye on Pakistan.

“No one will be allowed to cast an evil eye on Pakistan,” the premier said in a thinly veiled reference to India.

“The nation is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the valiant armed forces to defend the motherland.” He made the remarks while chairing a meeting of the federal cabinet convened to re- view escalating tensions between the two neighbourly countries.

The prime minister said that all steps would be taken in connection to Line of Control (LoC) vio- lations or aggression. He said Pakistan’s resolve to establish peace remained strong.

Meanwhile, Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif warned on Friday that any misadventure by Pakistan’s adversary will meet a befitting response from the armed forces.

“Pakistan can’t be coerced through any amount of malicious propaganda,” the army chief said during his visit to a newly developed Combat Reaction Training facility in the close vicinity of Lahore Garrison.

Speaking to the troops, the COAS exhorted all commanders of the Pakistan Army to lay more emphasis on combat readiness and said “the training in peacetime is the only guarantor of averting and winning a war if imposed.”

“The highest state of vigil is being maintained along the Line of Control, Working Boundary and the international border,” the army chief said while expressing his complete satisfaction over operation preparedness of the army.

Earlier, General Raheel also inaugurated a newly established Junior Campus of Garrison Academy, Lahore and attended their first school assembly.

“It was a special moment as COAS visited the premises of the school where he was a student 44 years ago (March 1967 – 1972).”

A large number of students, faculty members and Lahore Garrison Education System staff were present on the occasion. The army chief was accompanied by Commander Lahore Corps Lt-General Sadiq Ali.
