Sohar Refinery undergoes safe shut down

MUSCAT: Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industry’s (Orpic’s) Sohar Refinery experience­d a total safe shutdown due to technical issues. This is part of operationa­l activities of the company and resulted in irregular flaring.

Safety first

“At Orpic, we always place safety and the environmen­t first. Our maintenanc­e team was in place and resolved the technical issue. Our Odor Management and Control Team also worked to ensure minimum impact on our environmen­t and community,” said a state- ment. The refinery is currently under preparatio­n for startup and feed cut-in for RFCC starts from now. During this period, there might be high flaring for some time till all units are stabilised.

Technical issue

A senior Orpic official said, “There has been some technical issue in the refinery, however we have immediatel­y addressed it and are actively working on resolving it. At Orpic, we believe in mitigating and minimising risks with a clear target to zero harm. Safety of our people, plant and the communitie­s within which we operate is our utmost priority.”
