Kerala Wing conducts art contest for IS Ibra
MUSCAT: Indian Social Club, Kerala Wing organised an art competition 'Artfest 2017' for the students of Indian School Ibra.
The programme was held recently in Busaeedi Majlis. Nine hundred and fifty people including school children comprising about 300 families attended the event, says a press release.
There were four competitions for all students from KG1 to Class X. Colouring competition was held for children of KG 1 to Grade I. Seventy five children competed with one another and they were given a sketch of the butterfly which they coloured as if it looked like a 3D or real one on the paper.
Pencil drawing was held for sub junior students from Grade II to Grade IV. As many as 90 participants were shown a football mounted on flower vase. They performed exceedingly well showing a galaxy of talented children.
Collage competition for junior level students of Grade V to Grade VII and cartoon competition was held for senior students of Grade VIII to Grade X. ‘ Addiction to Social Media among students’ was deliberately chosen for both the collage and cartoon competitions. The judges noted that students articulated varying dimensions of the social media addiction through different forms of art such as collage and cartoon. The artwork gave reflections as to how different social media engages the precious time of all sections of society.
Two hundred and thirty four students belonging to different nationalities participated in all the four competitions far exceeding the expectations of the organisers and the attendees. Juries from faculty fraternity of Ibra College of Technology and artists and cartoonist from Sur and Ibra adjudged the winners of the competitions. Artwork of the participants was kept in exhibition for public and the audience found no bounds to see the art of the children.
The closing ceremony was held at 5pm. Dr Munir, convener of the organising committee gave the welcome address. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saif bin Ahmed Al Barwani, member of Majlis Al Shura representing the Ibra wilayat was the chief guest of the celebration. Dr Issa Saleh Hamood Al Amri, assistant dean of Students Affairs, Ibra College of Technology, Wilson George, chairman, Board of Directors of Indian Schools in the Sultanate and Santhosh Kumar, co-convenor, Indian Social Club, Kerala Wing were the guests of honour. The guests spoke felicitating the event and gave away trophies and mementos to the winners, jury and sponsors of the Artfest 2017.
