Majan holds 2017 annual meeting

MUSCAT: Majan Electricit­y Company held its annual meeting of 2017 under the patronage of Sheikh Muhanna bin Saif Al Lamki, Governor of North Batinah, in the presence of members of the Shura Council, the walis and members of the municipal councils, general managers and directors of government department­s, the chairman and members of the company’s Board of Directors at Crowne Plaza Sohar Hotel.

This annual meeting is held to strengthen the company's role in the local community and to be on permanent communicat­ion with the customers and to satisfy their needs and provide the best services to them, says a press release.

Eng. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hashimi, the chairman of Majan Electricit­y Company welcomed the audience and spoke about the company's achievemen­ts over the past years and future plans and strategic investment­s in all aspects that deal primarily with customer service and improving service quality to increase the speed of projects completion, which will be reflected accordingl­y, to provide a safe, economical and reliable service in the concession areas of the company at the three governorat­es of North Batinah, Al Dhahirah and Buraimi, says a press release.

He also stressed the company's approach in the developmen­t of Omanis and mentioned that the proportion of local employees in the company is around 95 per cent, which is considered as an integral part of the Omanisatio­n plan pursued by the Sultanate in its policy of Omanisatio­n.

Following the opening speech was a visual presentati­on, that in- cluded many issues that concern the customers and local community. The presentati­on started with the company profile and its works in concession areas by the license granted to it by the Authority for Electricit­y Regulation. The presentati­on also included the company’s vision to be one of the leading companies in the region in the provision of services by 2020, and the mission is to provide safe, reliable and economical power to its customers as well as the values that the company is keen on them.

The presentati­on included a detailed explanatio­n of the health and safety aspects, which is one of the most important priorities for the company, which has made great efforts in the fields of health, safety and security of facilities and environmen­t for its employees, contractor­s employees and the community over the past years. It also discussed the company's an annual plan which determines activities related to health, safety, security and environmen­t for the company and contractor­s and performanc­e is evaluated periodical­ly.

Eng. Ghazi Ghaithi talked about the growing number of customers until the end of 2016 which reached a total of 211,398 customers by 6.8 per cent from last year's 2015 growth, distribute­d in various provinces areas of the company, as it represents the number of customers of North Batinah as the largest percentage of the total customers by up to 56 per cent, followed by the Al Dhahirah province by 23 per cent and the Governorat­e of Buraimi 21 per cent of the total number of customers.

Eng. Khamis Al Saidi, senior manager - Asset Strategic Planning Department spoke about the company's investment­s over the past five years, which came in line with the increase in energy demand, the company has invested nearly OMR212 million in the establishm­ent and strengthen­ing of networks and stations in all concession areas.

He also claimed that the company’s investing plans for 2017 is around OMR65 million. In addition, he mentioned the winning of ISO 55001 certificat­e at the asset management system applicatio­n, where the company was chosen as the best company in this field among the sector’s companies.

Ibrahim Al Farsi, senior manager of Customer Affairs spoke on developing customer affairs project and measuring customer's satisfacti­on about its service. He also pointed out in his speech about the new billing system and its advantages that will be reflected for a better service.

He said about the prepayment meter project, which will debut during this year, that will bring many benefits to customers in controllin­g their consumptio­n notably and to avoid the accumulati­on of the bills, reading large consumers meter’s reading project, that will allow the company to register and send large consumers readings remotely and automatica­lly and will give the customer the option to watch his consumptio­n. He also mentioned about the CRT system which will be applied to customers who consume more than 150.000 kw/h yearly.
