Dhofar Power marks 9.3m man hours without lost time incident

MUSCAT: Dhofar Power Company (DPC) has achieved 9.3 million safe working man-hours, without loss time injury (LTI).

The milestone, along with other HSE achievements in 2016, was marked with a celebratory event held at the Crowne Plaza Salalah on January 12. It was attended by Nama group company representatives, DPC’s senior management, staff and contractors.

“Safety is our number one priority and we have always placed a very high emphasis on employee health and safety, no matter what their role or duty. We have a diligent and experienced team committed to ensuring safe distribution and supply of electricity. Best HSE practices are not only vital for ensuring a safe working environment for our employees, but also to maintain the highest safety standards for all of our customers here in the Dhofar region,” said Eng. Ali Issa Shamas, chief executive officer of the DPC.

“A total of 9.3 million safe working man-hours that are LTI-free is equivalent to four years without a serious incident. I would like to take this opportunity to personally congratulate every employee, stakeholder and contractor who has made this achievement possible,” added Eng. Ali Issa Shamas. The DPC also achieved other significant HSE milestones in 2016.

The electricity provider recently became an OHSAS 18001 and an ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) certified company.

The OHSAS 18001 is a globally recognised HSE system de- signed to assist organisations to control occupational health and safety risks .

“Our well-developed HSE management system is the key to ensuring that our contractors, staff and customers are as safe as possible throughout every aspect of our operations. We have reinforced our commitment to the HSE factors to comply with the Authority of Electricity Regulation, various Oman Royal Decrees, ministerial decisions, OES and MECA standards,” Eng. Ali Issa Shamas noted.
