‘Draft national strategy against corruption completed’

MUSCAT: Oman’s draft national strategy for the protection of fairness and combating corruption has been completed, a top official said on Sunday.

He pointed this out after the experts Team for Implementing United Nations Convention Against Corruption met at the headquarters of the State Financial and Administrative Audit Institution (SFAAI) under the chair of Sheikh Nasser bin Hilal Al Ma’awali, Chairman of SFAAI to discuss the preparations for the second session to review the Sultanate’s implementation of the Convention.

The meeting is part of the efforts made by SFAAI to implement the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

Progress

Al Ma’awali reviewed the progress made in implementing the convention as he pointed out that the draft national strategy for the protection of fairness and combating corruption has been completed and raised to the Council of Ministers.

On the other hand, the experts reviewed the self-evaluation, which reviews the Sultanate’s implementation of the Conventions’ second chapter related to preventive measures and fifth chapter related to asset recovery.

Draw

It should be noted that the draw for the countries that will make review during 2016 will be held on 16th June 2017 at the United Na- tional Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna.

The Experts Team for Implementing UN Convention against Corruption includes members from the Administrative Affairs Council for Judiciary, the Public Prosecution, SFAAI, Royal Oman Police, Ministry of Interior, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Legal Affairs.
