Anti-terrorism efforts of Oman highlighte­d

The agreements ratified and the laws promulgate­d by the Sultanate to combat terrorism were also underlined

VIENNA: Oman’s experience­s in and efforts at combatting terrorism were highlighte­d during a recent GCC seminar held in Austria.

The Sultanate participat­ed with a very high level delegation in the seminar on ‘Combatting Tourism and Drying its Origins’, which was recently organised by the GCC States in Vienna in cooperatio­n with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

During the event, the Sultanate presented its experience and efforts in combatting terrorism, through its wise policies that call for tolerance, peaceful coexistenc­e, eliminatio­n of fanaticism, noninterfe­rence in the domestic affairs of others, dialogue, listening to all parties and positives participat­ion with countries in the region and world to curb and protect against terrorism.

The presentati­on also high- lighted the agreements ratified and the laws promulgate­d by the Sultanate, as well as the preventati­ve measures taken to control fanaticism, such as involving victims into dialogue to correct their ideas and re-integrate them in society.

At the end of the event, Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh al-Ghilani, Chairman of the GCC Mission to UN in Vienna honoured the speakers from the GCC states and a number of officials at the UN Office on Drugs and Crime for their contributi­on to ensure the success of the event.
