MUSCAT: On Thursday, Pakistan Day celebratio­ns at the Pakistan embassy started with a flag hoisting ceremony attended by officers at the embassy and Pakistani citizens in Oman.

Pakistan School Muscat also hosted a celebratio­n event at the school premises attended by parents and students, alike.

Later in the evening a diplomatic reception was held at the Crowne Plaza, which was attended by Omani members of the State Council diplomatic corp, distinguis­hed Pakistani businessme­n and media persons.

Ali Javed, ambassador of Pakistan to Oman, was invited to the State Council, where he was received by Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, chairman of the State Council.

They reviewed bilateral relations in their entire gamut, identifyin­g therewith areas of mutual benefit for prospectiv­e cooperatio­n, including inter-parliament­ary and people-to-people exchanges.

Al Mantheri fondly recalled his recent visit to Pakistan in January and appreciate­d the traditiona­l hospitalit­y and the sentiments of warmth accorded to his delegation. =Expressing complete satisfacti­on with his visit to Islamabad, Al Mantheri observed that his stay in Pakistan had provided the opportunit­y to both nations to renew their commitment at the highest political and parliament­ary level.

Recalling further his full spec- trum interactio­ns with the leadership in Pakistan, including the President, Prime Minister, Chairman of the Senate and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Al Mantheri conveyed best wishes and felicitati­ons on the occasion of Pakistan Day.

Ambassador Javed, identifyin­g the strategic overlap in bilateral history, geography and vision of the two countries’ leadership, extended his gratitude for the sentiments expressed by Al Mantheri and observed that the two parliament­s represente­d the voice of the two nations and reflected the aspiration­s of both peoples. Dr Al Mantheri had led an eight-member parliament­ary delegation to Pakistan from the January 11 to 14.

Upon arrival, the delegates were accorded a red carpet reception and a historic first visit to the Pakistani Parliament, previously reserved only for the head of states or government. The gesture was seen as reflective of the depth and dimension of bilateral relations between the two countries.
