Duqm free zone completes 16 per cent work

DUQM: Duqm free zone has completed 16 per cent of the ninth five-year plan infrastruc­ture projects, a senior official said. The five year plan is betweeen 2016 and 2020.

Hussein Al Zadjali, head of the Building Projects Department at the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (Sezad), added that Sezad is working on the completion of infrastruc­ture projects during the period set for them, pointing out that 48 per cent of these projects are currently being implemente­d, while 16 per cent are in the bidding stage and 7 per cent are in the operation and maintenanc­e phase, in addition to 13 per cent that are in the stage of preparatio­n for work volume and bidding equipment. He was providing an update to local media representa­tives during their visit to Duqm.

He pointed out that the estimated cost of these projects exceeds OMR700 million, adding that these projects will include completion of the remaining packages of the infrastruc­ture projects for the Port of Duqm. It also includes the establishm­ent of marine works for the fishing harbour, as well as a number of major and auxiliary roads, lighting and other projects.

Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Abri, deputy CEO of Oman Dry Dock Company for Operations, presented a paper at the Crowne Plaza Duqm Hotel in which he reviewed the objectives and strategies of the company and the services it provides. He said the dry dock will be capable of absorbing and repairing 200 ships annually, including the giant oil tankers.
