Staff Reporter MUSCAT: A huge number of visitors attended the opening day of COMEX 2017, according to organisers.

“We can definitely say that more people have visited the expo on the first day itself this year compared to the last. This time we have a Smart City conference too where the CEOs of big companies are participating. They are also visiting all three venues of the expo,” an official from Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre said. “As we are collecting data, we won’t be able to give an exact number of visitors,” the official added.

Last year, over 2,500 business visitors and more than 90,000 consumer visitors attended the five-day event.

The 27th edition of COMEX 2017 opened its doors at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Monday.

The convention is being held in three halls. In Hall 1, Smart City plans are being discussed, Hall 2 is a shoppers area and in Hall 3, govt and private institutions have set up their stalls. The three-day event is the biggest Information Technology, Telecom and Technology show in the country to showcase the latest IT technologies in the Sultanate.

Fourteen government entities are participating this year in the COMEX 2017 exhibition to introduce their electronic services and launch a number of new services.

Additionally, more than 100 IT companies from nine countries will participate in the exhibition: Malaysia, France, Italy, Iran, Jordan, the UAE, Kuwait and Yemen as well as a number of government and private institutions from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
