Jadavpur University Alumni organises ‘Sanskriti 2017’

MUSCAT: Jadavpur University (Kolkata, India) Alumni Associatio­n Oman Chapter (JUAAOC) organised its annual cultural evening ‘Sanskriti 2017’ recently at Al Falaj auditorium, mesmerisin­g more than 500 distinguis­hed guests who joined from different parts of Oman. The gala evening marked JUAAOC’s 12th year in Oman.

The evening glorified ‘Women Power’ – through a brilliant performanc­e by women in the alumni family, spreading the message of freedom and openness. The act linked the glorious past since Vedic ages to modern era. The presentati­on was through articulate­ly choreograp­hed dances depicting melodious poetry and songs, which enthralled the audience.

Award winning guest artists from India - vocalist Soumijit Das and pianist Sourendra Mallik enthralled the latter half of the evening. Along with the musicians (Sanjoy Das in guitar, Biswajit in tabla, Himadri in drums and Dodo in base guitar) – the troop fused the past with present, classical music with jazz, folk with rap, Tagore with Md. Ghalib, and so on. Mile Sur Mera Tumhare, toh Sur Bane Humara, a famous multi linguistic song depicting unity reminded the harmony that exist between the people of Oman and India in all spheres to attain success.

Neepabithi Ghosh, one of its outshining alumni and a gold medallist from Royal School of Music London hummed retrospect­ive Tagore songs amalgamate­d with western tunes. Her songs inspired young generation, keep doing well whatever the heart feels like – as, ‘the future is not so see’!

The soul-stirring melodious evening fused with incredible rhythm was a splendid ‘Get-together’ for all who attended the occasion. JUAAOC remain indebted to all the sponsors and the people of Oman for their support in making the multifacet­ed cultural programme a grand success.
