Bank Sohar sponsors World Labour Day event
MUSCAT: As part of consistent efforts to ensure employees’ rights and benefits, Bank Sohar recently sponsored World Labour Day 2017 celebrations held recently by the General Federation of Oman Trade Unions (GFOTU).
The event was held under the auspices of Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri – Minister of Manpower, at the General Federation of Oman Trade Union Head Office in Ghala. Representing Bank Sohar at the event were Mazin Mahmood Al Raisi – Sr. AGM & head of Marketing and Customer Experience, and Juma Salim Al Riyami, Union president at Bank Sohar.
Commenting on the bank’s participation and support, Munira Abdulnabi Macki, GM of Human Resources & Corporate Support, at Bank Sohar, said, “It has been an honour to be part of World Labour Day celebrations. We would like to congratulate workers all over the Sultanate on this occasion. We would like to thank them for their efforts, dedication and hard work and also extend our gratitude to the labor union for the continuous efforts to support workers’ interest and benefits.”
The GFOTU celebrations for World Labour Day pay tribute to workers across the Sultanate and recognise their achievements and contributions. It awards spe- cial honour to labour unions that stand out for implementing initiatives that safeguard the interests of employees and ensure equal rights which create a just and fair working environment for all.
Munira added, “Since inception, Bank Sohar has always invested in staff care, development, and training which leads towards building a friendly and productive working environment that facilitates growth and further career development. At Bank Sohar, we support the rights of our employees and their interest and we are proud to play a vital role in providing the required benefits to our staff, and from this perspective, Bank Sohar Labour Union was formed in 2015, with a collective vision of making Bank Sohar one of the best places to work in the Sultanate.”
The event included the ceremony of the Trade Union Awards, which aims to motivate specific target groups into adopting proactive measures to develop the trade union movement in the Sultanate. These target groups are: trade unions, representatives of unions and labour unions, government agencies or their representatives, community institutions and their representatives, private foundations or their representatives.
