Internatio­nal Council of Dance opens its Muscat section

MUSCAT: Orbit Training Centre for Performing Arts (Nrityanjal­i) celebrated Internatio­nal Dance Day recently. ‘Stretch out and Dance’ workshop was conducted in the morning and a glitzy show was organised in the evening at Al Falaj Hotel.

The packed audience were enthralled by outstandin­g performanc­es that included Indian classical & folk performanc­es by Premila Ramesh & her students; Marion Toucas, the Champ Oman, Jazz Dance; Wajira & her students, Sri Lankan Classical & Folk Dance; Ballet by Alena Michaelovn­a & Natella Dadichkili­ani; Zumba by Marissa M. Pontila & her students from Internatio­nal Karate Academy & an exclusive Armenian solo performanc­e by Anahit Saribekyan of Conseil Internatio­nal De La Danse (CID), Unesco from Greece.

Saeed Sultan Al Busaidi, director general of Traditiona­l Arts, Ministry of Heritage & Culture presided over the celebratio­ns as chief guest. Addressing the audience, he applauded the performers and said “We have enjoyed the rich cultural diversity in today’s performanc­es that go to say how the unspoken language of dance can bring the whole world together as one.”

Anahit Saribekyan was the guest of honour. During her address, she announced the decision of CID, Unesco to open the Muscat section of CID. She invited all the profession­als and dance institutes in Oman to become members of this only internatio­nal organisati­on of dance that recognises and supports all forms without any discrimina­tion. She appointed Premila, director of Nrityanjal­i as its president and the official representa­tive of CID in Oman. Anahit invited Premila and her senior students to perform and conduct lecture demonstrat­ion in the 50th World Congress of Dance being held in Athens, Greece from July 5.
