Double the rewards performing Umrah during holy Ramadan
DIPNA JACOB Muslims around the world have a deepest desire to visit the holy city of Mecca and pay their obeisance to the Almighty God. For Muslims, it is required to perform Haj pilgrimage at least once during their lifetime; this is a very difficult journey and it comes only once a year and one should be financially and physically capable to perform it.
“It is narrated by the beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) that it is highly recommended to perform Umrah during Ramadan. It is the minor pilgrimage to the city of Mecca and the rewards of performing Umrah during Ramadan is equal to performing Haj,” said Hatim Al Abdissalaam.
Ramadan is one of the most blessed months in the Islamic calendar. For those who were not able to perform Haj yet, performing Umrah pilgrimage dur- ing the month of Ramadan will reap the full rewards and atonement for the sins.
Al Abdissalaam said, “The blessings of being in the house of God during Ramadan are immense. The tranquility and peace one attains performing Umrah in unexplainable. You are among the millions of people and all are equal in front of God regardless of any barriers.”
Unconditional blessings
Gathering in the house of God brings with it the realisation of the unbiased benevolence of the Almighty. It gives a feeling of serenity and removes arrogance and vanity from everybody.
Al Abdissalaam, “It is an experience that will teach us humility in front of God. Sometimes when we have great achievements in life, we tend to become arrogant and we think we are better than others and one of the reasons for this is the lack of knowledge. Knowledge can do two things to us. Either it will make us arrogant to look down on others or we become humble. The more knowledge you have, the more humble and pious you become.
“Going to the city of Mecca teaches you humility, that you are not better than anyone. You might have accumulated immense wealth or achieved fame but the person who is sweeping the floor might be closer to God more than you might. You might know the whole Quran by heart but that person might be closer to God due to the virtue of his own good deeds. Almighty God does not look at your image but looks at what is within your heart. Nobody can open your heart and know your intentions other than God. If you pretend to be pious and good and deep within you are filthy then you will be exposed the day you will pass away,” he concluded.
