Darsait sewage treatment plant to be ready by 2018
MUSCAT: Haya Water is currently working to complete the new Darsait STP project. This sewage treatment plant (STP) is considered one of the largest and most significant projects in the region, which is designed with the highest standards and specifications to cover Darsait area and nearby areas.
Eng. Said bin Rashid Al Asmi, general manager for projects - Haya Water said that this STP will serve the residents of the areas of Wadi Kabeir, Hamriya, Ruwi, Bait Al Falaj, Darsait, Costal Darsait and Aynt. The capacity of the STP in its first phase will be 37,000 cubic metres per day and it will be increased to 50,000 during the second phase. The STP is expected to be completed during the last quarter of 2018.
Al Asmi said that the location of the STP was selected due to features of the area and at the top of these is the low gravity that will contribute to the easy flow of water to the STP. The construction of the new STP is part of the company’s efforts to connect houses and other facilities with a modern wastewater system and to raise the capacity of wastewater treatment by taking advantage of the latest technologies in the field of wastewater treatment. The STP will use the Membrane Bio-Reactor technology, which is considered one of the best systems worldwide that produces highquality and pollution-free treated wastewater in accordance with local and international standards and specifications. Moreover, the new STP will be completely covered and it will be equipped with a high-tech ventilation system for odor control. The shape of the building will be done using modern architecture.
In order to promote the prin- ciples of social responsibility, the STP scope of work will also include the establishment of recreational facilities in the area. In fact, Haya Water is considering constructing two football fields and open spaces for those who wish to practice any kind of sports. The location of these two football fields and other facilities will be on the old STP site, which will be demolished after operating the new STP officially.
