Bangladesh appoints new envoy to Oman

Mohammed Golam Sarwar joined the foreign service in 1991 and is currently serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh to Sweden

MUSCAT: Bangladesh has appointed a new ambassador to Oman, the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh said.

Mohammed Golam Sarwar, a career diplomat of 10th BCS (Foreign Affairs), will be the next Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Sultanate of Oman.

Sarwar joined the foreign service in 1991 and is currently serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh to Sweden.

“In his distinguished diplomatic career, he served as the Consul General in Jeddah and Minister in Washington DC. He has also served in Bangladesh Missions in Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur, Yangon in different capacities,” the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh said.

Sarwar completed his Masters of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Dhaka.

He also completed an advanced course in diplomacy in Germany and an Overseas Executive Course from the Near-East South Asia Centre for Strategic Studies (NESA) in Washington DC.

He has also completed several professional training courses at home and abroad, and represented Bangladesh at numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings.

The present Bangladesh Ambassador to Oman, Sekander Ali, was appointed four years back.

Ali had served at various Bangladesh missions, including at the Bangladesh Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Brussels and at the Bangladesh High Commission, Kuala Lumpur.

He has also served as Minister (political) at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Doha.
