MUSCAT: Proposals for developmen­t of libraries and empowermen­t of researcher­s in the Sultanate have been approved by the State Council.

The State Council on Tuesday held its 11th session of the second annual sitting of the sixth term under the chair of Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council.

During the session, the State council approved the proposal of the Culture, Media and Tourism Committee about ‘ the status of the public and private libraries and their social role’.

It also decided to form a technical drafting committee to include the remarks of the members and prepare the final proposal.

It also approved the proposal of the education and research committee on the study about empowering researcher­s at the academic and research institutio­ns and linking them to business and industrial organisati­ons in the Sultanate.

The Secretary General of the State Council said that the Council of Ministers hailed the ‘Tourism between Reality and Aspiration’ study, which was referred by the State Council during the second annual sitting of the current term.

The Study included a number of visions and proposals that may enhance the tourism sector in the Sultanate.

The Council of Ministers requested relevant organisati­ons to benefit from such visions and proposals.

As for the Cultural Heritage Draft Law and the World Heritage List, Aflaj Sites Regularisa­tion and Protection Draft Law referred by the Council of Ministers, he added that the State Council has approved the recommenda­tions of the joint committee between the State Council and Majlis Al Shura on the articles of disagreeme­nt, which were made during the 9th session of the second annual sitting of the sixth term.

Accordingl­y the two draft laws were raised to His Majesty the Sultan together with the views of the State Council and Majlis Al Shura.
