Homes come alive with 3D wallpapers

- GAUTAM VISWANATHAN

MUSCAT: An Omani entrepreneur is taking interior design to the next level, by designing 3D wallpapers, making the homes of his very pleased customers come alive in the process.

Twenty seven-year-old Hamed Al Battashi developed his creative spark when he first saw designers work in his own home when he was 20, and the inspiration to brighten up other people’s houses has grown with him since.

Al Battashi specialises in incorporating natural themes into his wallpapers. Walk into the living room, for example, and you might be greeted by a verdant forest. Step into your bedroom, and you might find yourself looking down at a very lifelike lake.

“I honestly have a lot of fun designing these wallpapers because not only does it make me happy to do so, it also makes my customers happy and that is what gives me true satisfaction,” he told the Times of Oman.

“In the beginning, it was very hard for me to convince my customers to opt for my wallpapers, because they don’t really like the look of a wallpaper and they are worried it may not last long, but mine are of excellent quality, with some of them even being antimoisture,” added Al Battashi.

Once word of the quality and aesthetic appeal of his work spread, though, Al Battashi was inundated with orders, and at present, half of those who inquire about his specialised line of work always come back with requests for their favourite wallpaper.

However, while he does want the client to be happy with the work being done, he prefers them to have a hands-off approach, instead of micro-managing every little detail, as that only serves to put off any skilled designer.

“A lot of the times, the clients themselves will go to the stores and pick out a wallpaper of their choice,” revealed Al Battashi. “However, unfortunately, some clients do not know how to measure their walls properly and this means they often don’t buy enough paper to cover their walls the way they initially intended it to.”

“This means they have to go back and either buy more of the same type of paper, or more often than not, a wallpaper that is very similar to the one they just bought because as it often happens, the store does not have enough stock of their wallpaper of choice,” he added.

“Therefore, I always ask the client to allow me to measure their walls instead.” Al Battashi also has ambitious plans to take his business to the next level across the Sultanate. “I want to have a store in every area of Oman,” he revealed. “That is my dream.”
