Impact of electronics & communication on society
MUSCAT: Anasuya Patil, assistant professor of Department of Electronics & Communication - Waljat College of Applied Sciences talks about the impact of electronics and communication on society.
Electronics has become an integral part of our life. We start our day with electronic alarm to get up early in the morning, to prepare food with the help of microwave oven, washing machine to clean our clothes that include electronic panel, listening to music using electronic gadgets like a CD player, DVD Player, iPod, computer, mobile etc. One can find electronics in every walks of life such as at home, schools, colleges, defence, industries, health care, research, geographic science, graphics etc. Electronics has become the backbone of digital technology.
Electronics is playing an important role in digital camera technology as well. Nowadays a mobile has a digital camera, which enables us to capture still pictures, and instantaneous video recording can be uploaded to Facebook, WhatsApp etc.
Electronic devices are used in health care to assist doctors in diagnosing and to determine the problems. It is also used to assist in research work to find a cure for illness and provide treatment.
Electronic equipment like CT scan, MRI, blood test, diabetics, cholesterol, etc.
Electronics plays a major role in designing and developing a circuit that consists of diodes, transistors, microchips etc. The latest technology such as LED TV, Traffic light signal, LED lights etc is based on semiconductor diodes, which consume very less electricity, light in weight, reduced volume and power requirement. Picture quality has improved compared to previous CRT based technology.
Electronics & communication has huge scope in Oman and all over the world. Electronics has become a part of our life, thus it increases the scope manifold.
Electronics industry is growing very fast and continuously, hence leading to good job opportunities in industries like mobile phone, IT industry, television, computers like PC, laptop, tablet & palm top. In addition to this, there are good career options in consumer durables, oil & gas, chemical, power electronics. Further, it has many applications ranging from healthcare, satellite communication, mobile communication (2G, 3G,4G ), telecommunication and internet technology.
Bachelor of Electronics & Communication engineers can work in research, design & development, and manufacture of electronics devices. They also have job openings in sales & marketing of electronic equipment and maintenance & repair of electronic equipment.
Postgraduate degree will improve the job prospects further. For in depth knowledge, students can do specialisation in the field of Electronics & Communication after completing their BE (ECE), students can pursue MTech, MS, or ME in various fields such as VLSI Design, Microwave Engineering, Integrated Circuits, Embedded System, Nanotechnology, Microelectronics and so on.
