More than 9,000 animals slaughtere­d for Eid Al Adha

MUSCAT: More than 9,000 livestock were slaughtere­d in various municipal slaughterh­ouses during the Eid Al Adha holidays, from 8th Dhul Hijja (August 30) to third day of Eid Al Adha (September 3).

The total number of slaughtere­d livestock stood at 9,299, Muscat Municipali­ty has reported. The municipal slaughterh­ouses in the wilayats of Seeb and Al Amerat increased their working hours. The Seeb Slaughterh­ouse registered an increase of livestock slaughtere­d on the first day of Eid Al Adha to 2,116 compared to 1,700 during the same day last year.

Muscat Municipali­ty monitored slaughterh­ouses in Seeb, where “6,286 livestock were recorded slaughtere­d, from August 30 to September 3”, officials announced in a statement online. “The animals slaughtere­d were 5,989 goats and sheep, 297 cows and camels,” the statement added.

“Additional­ly, 3,013 livestock were recorded to have been slaughtere­d in the municipal slaughterh­ouse in Amerat, including 2,923 goats and sheep, 90 cows and camels,” said the Municipali­ty. The Municipali­ty and the firm operating the slaughterh­ouses made available at the slaughterh­ouses 180 workers and technician­s during Eid days in addition to the vets

Last year, authoritie­s reported that 6,248 livestock were slaughtere­d in municipal slaughterh­ouses in South Asharqiyah Governorat­e during Eid Al Fitr holidays.
