MSM index ends lower

Renaissanc­e Services remained the top gainer, up by 5.41%, while Financial Services was the top loser, down by 4.76%

MUSCAT: Weakness in the financial and industrial sectors dragged down the MSM30 Index, which closed at 5,010.68 points, down by 0.56 per cent. The MSM Sharia Index declined by 0.21 per cent to close at 733.86 points. Bank Nizwa was the most active in terms of volume while Oman Telecommun­ications Company was most active in terms of turnover. Renaissanc­e Services remained the top gainer, up by 5.41 per cent, while Financial Services was the top loser, down by 4.76 per cent.

Traded shares

A total number of 599 trades were executed on Tuesday, generating turnover of OMR2.76 million with 13.18 million shares changing hands.

Out of 36 traded securities, 5 advanced, 20 declined and 11 remained unchanged. Omani investors switched to net buyers of OMR1.26 million followed by GCC and Arab investors for OMR64,000 while foreign investors were net sellers of OMR1.32 million worth of shares.

Financial Index had sharp loss of 0.91 per cent to close at 7,434.82 points. Vision Insurance, up by 2.86 per cent, was the only gainer. Financial Services, HSBC Bank, Gulf Investment Services, NBO and Bank Sohar declined by 4.76 per cent, 2.65 per cent, 2.53 per cent, 2.33 per cent and 1.96 per cent, respective­ly.

Industrial Index declined by 0.89 per cent to close at 6,739.25 points. National Aluminium and Gulf Internatio­nal Chemicals gained 2.50 per cent and 2.38 per cent, respective­ly. Voltamp Energy, Al Anwar Ceramics, Oman Cement, Galfar Engineerin­g and Al Jazeera Steel retreated by 2.85 per cent, 2.44 per cent, 2.38 per cent, 1.33 per cent and 1.25 per cent, respective­ly. Services Index closed at 2,465.26 points, down by 0.08 per cent. Renaissanc­e Services and Omantel increased by 5.41 per cent and 1.65 per cent, respective­ly. Al Batinah Power, Al Suwadi Power, Sembcorp Salalah, Oman National Engineerin­g and OIFC declined by 3.70 per cent, 3.45 per cent, 2.18 per cent, 1.33 per cent and 1.23 per cent, respective­ly.
