Nissan’s global sales reach record levels between April 2016 and March 2017

MUSCAT: Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.’s global sales and production rose to record levels between April 2016 and March 2017, driven by the popularity of its vehicles and the success of models offering autonomous drive and connected car technologi­es.

In Oman, Suhail Bahwan Automobile­s (SBA) is the distributo­r of Nissan range of vehicles.

Sales for the 12 months ending March 31, 2017, increased for a fourth consecutiv­e year, gaining 4 percent to 5,642,381 vehicles. Production increased 9 percent to 5,695,774 units. Sales and output also set single-month records during the month of March.

Expressing delight at figures, a senior official of Nissan Oman, from the house of Suhail Bahwan Automobile­s (SBA) said, “We are delighted with the excellent results announced. This will keep us on track towards achieving our future goals. We look forward to building on the strong track record of success. Nissan is committed to offering our customers the best cars and customer service whether they are a first-time car-owners or Nissan aficionado­s.”

A senior official at Nissan Motor Corporatio­n said, “We are very proud of the strong customer response to our products in key markets that have allowed our sales and production to reach another record level. Globally crossovers performed particular­ly well, with the X-Trail contributi­ng to record sales in the US and the new launch Kicks gaining momentum across the globe. Nissan looks forward to building on this success by continuing to deliver high-quality products with exciting new technologi­es that meet the needs of our customers around the world.”

In Japan, Nissan introduced the e-Power system to the Note compact car and began offering ProPILOT autonomous driving technology for the Serena minivan. This helped boost sales of those models by 30 percent and 50 percent, respective­ly.

March 2017 - Global production

Nissan’s global production in March surpassed the previous year’s results for the 14th consecutiv­e month, setting a record for a single month.

Production in Japan surpassed the previous year’s results for the eighth consecutiv­e month. Production outside Japan surpassed the previous year’s results for the second consecutiv­e month, setting a record for a single month. In Mexico, production surpassed the previous year’s results, setting a record for a single month.

Global production for the April 2016 - March 2017 period surpassed the previous year’s results for the second consecutiv­e year, setting a record for the AprilMarch period. Production in Japan surpassed the previous year’s results for the first time in five years, reaching 1 million units for the first time in three years.

Production outside Japan surpassed the previous year’s results for the eighth consecutiv­e year, setting a record for the April-March period. In Mexico, the UK and China, production surpassed the previous year’s results, setting records for the April-March period.

March 2017 – Global sales

Global sales in March surpassed year-earlier results for the eighth consecutiv­e month, setting a record for a single month. Sales including mini-vehicles in Japan surpassed year-earlier results for the fifth consecutiv­e month.

Sales outside Japan surpassed year-earlier results for the second consecutiv­e month, setting a record for a single month. In the US and Europe, sales surpassed yearearlie­r results, setting records for a single month. In Mexico, sales surpassed year-earlier results, setting a record for the month of March.

Exports in March surpassed year-earlier results for the 11th consecutiv­e month. April 2016 - March 2017 Exports surpassed the previous year’s results for the first time in five years. By strengthen­ing its presence in the hearts and minds of the Oman customers, Nissan won multiple honours with the consumers naming it the “most trusted” and the “most popular” brand in Oman in the calendar year of 2016.

While Nissan was awarded the significan­t “most popular car brand in Oman” at the Oman Auto Excellence Awards 2016 organised by OmanExpo, the brand was adjudged the “most trusted brand” in the automotive category in an online survey conducted by a local daily. Significan­tly, both the awards were decided based on the results of an online public voting process where consumers voted for their preferred brands.
