-

MUSCAT: A three-day workshop to teach children aged 8 to 14 years the basics of space science and how they can become space astronauts in the future, will be held by the Space and Technology Company starting on October 4.

The “little space expert” workshop was planned to coincide with the World Space Week, which will start from October 4 and end on October 10.

“This workshop aims to raise children’s awareness in space concepts and fundamentals, as well as introduce them to the latest technology involved in the field,” said Hebba Al Ryamiah, who is responsible of the company’s Education Department.

“The workshop will include theoretical and practical activities, such as an introduction to the astronaut’s job nature and their daily routine life in the space, and a closer look to the satellites and rocket parts, were in some of these parts we will be using the 3D technology to make it more fun for the children.”

Al Ryamiah added that the workshop will also enable the children to participate in making and installing a satellite and that the lack of a subject and workshops related to space field in the schools is the main reason why the company decided to plan this event. For registration in the workshop, just fill the form attached on the company’s Twitter page: @space_oman.

Each year, the World Space Week Association (WSWA) selects a theme for the upcoming World Space Week to provide a focus of the activities and events that will take place throughout the world, during October 4 to 10.

WSWA announced the 2017 World Space Week Theme as: “Exploring New Worlds in Space.”
