Dates season set to start

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry will start receiving the 2017 production of dried dates, (Busoor) from all governorat­es

MUSCAT: Dried dates procuremen­t by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is set to begin.

The Ministry will start receiving the 2017 production of dried dates, called Busoor from all governorat­es in three types known as Al Mabsali, Al Madlouki and Abu Naranja in the Ministry stores in Wadi Kabir, Muscat, in accordance with the procedures of the past years until December 31.

This is in continuati­on of the approach of and role played by the Ministry by providing government subsidy to farmers who supply their dried dates to the ministry, as well as providing subsidy to farmers who export their products from this year’s crop to foreign markets directly to encourage them to find alternativ­e and new markets.

The Ministry has called on farmers to pay attention to the quality of the product that is supplied to the domestic or foreign markets, by paying attention to cleaning the product well of impurities and flakes to maintain its reputation and compete with local and foreign produce.

The Ministry has also called on farmers to strive to increase the export of their Busoor products in their own way.

The Ministry has confirmed to the farmers who will export their products from this year’s crop that they will receive government subsidy of OMR62.5 per tonne.
