OFA names Oman team for AFC U-19 qualifiers

The Sultanate’s youth squad will leave for Kyrgyzstan on October 24 to take part in Group A qualifying event for 2018 AFC U-19 Championsh­ip

MUSCAT: A 23-member Oman youth football team will leave for Kyrgyzstan on October 24 to take part in the AFC U-19 Championsh­ip qualifiers.

Coach Rasheed Jaber on Wednesday revealed the list of players who will be travelling to the Kyrgyzstan’s capital city of Bishkek where Oman will be competing in the five-team Group A competitio­n from October 31 to November 8.

Oman delegation to Bishkek will be headed by Oman Football Associatio­n (OFA) board member Ibrahim bin Mubarak Al Alawi.

Rasheed’s boys have prepared well for the Asian U-19 qualifiers with a series of domestic and internatio­nal training camps. They have also participat­ed in a few internatio­nal tournament­s, including a friendly invitation­al tournament hosted by the OFA.

In Bishkek, Oman will start their campaign with a match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on October 31. They will play hosts Kyrgyzstan on November 22. The Sultanate squad are scheduled to play Bahrain on November 6 before completing their group engagement­s with a match against Nepal on November 8.

The top teams from ten groups and five best second-placed teams qualify for the 2018 AFC U-19 Championsh­ip, which is scheduled to take place in Indonesia from October 18 to November 4, 2018.
