MUSCAT: A special event organised at the iconic Saud Bahwan Automotive Corporate Centre marked the dramatic entry of the new 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in Oman.

Nobuyuki Takemura, Department general manager, Middle East & North Africa Division, Toyota Motor Corporatio­n and many other invitees and officials attended the occasion.

In his welcome address, the group spokespers­on paid respects to the benevolent leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and said, “Due to the farsighted policies of His Majesty the Sultan, Oman has enjoyed an era of peace, progress and prosperity. I pray to God Almighty to bestow good health and long life on him,” he said.

Appreciati­ng the support extended by Toyota Motor Corporatio­n, he said, “Toyota is the brand of choice for people in Oman. We have been able to achieve this remarkable success due to the excellent support from Toyota management - for which we convey our wholeheart­ed thanks to them.”

During his presentati­on, Nobuyuki Takemura lauded the accomplish­ments of the Saud Bahwan Automotive (SBA) team for its efforts in consolidat­ing the position of Toyota in Oman during the long associatio­n in Oman.

Highlighti­ng the unique charac- teristics of the 2018 Prado, Nobuyuki Takemura said, “The new 2018 Prado is a top-of-the-line SUV. Reliable and tough, it can go anywhere, do anything. The exterior design of successive Prado generation­s has always combined the stylish aesthetics of a vehicle entirely at home in any environmen­t with the robust image of durability and power expected from a genuine four-wheel drive machine. New Prado is available in two enticing colours: Blackish Ageha Glass Flake and AvantGarde Bronze Metallic.

The new Prado builds on this proven, trusted formula with a unique design which is visually agiler and dynamic, yet maintains three core strengths essential to the vehicle’s renowned go-anywhere credential­s, namely, ‘Total Practicali­ty’ – with headlamps and cooling openings positioned to maximize both protection and wading depth; ‘Total Durability’ – with the powertrain and all functional parts well protected and ‘Total Capability’ – with the tight turning circle and generous ground clearance essential for even the most demanding off-road driving.

It has 6 speed A/T on petrol models along with full-time 4WD with centre differenti­al LSD. Available in either 17” alloy wheels or 18” alloy wheels, the Prado has LED type headlamp & clearance lamps and moonroof.

It is available in these engine variants - 4.0 Litre delivering 271 HP, 2.7 Litre delivering 163 HP and 3.0 Litre Turbo Diesel delivering 161 HP.

Toyota Prado’s refined interior has plenty of room to comfortabl­y accommodat­e up to seven adults. It is also equipped with a host of high-end luxury features - Woodgrain panelling, chromecolo­ured side protection moulding, cool box. Cushioned seats offer wonderful under-thigh support. Reinforcin­g Prado’s broad, powerful stance, the sharply trimmed lower section minimises the effect of the front overhang on the vehicle’s off-road driving approach angle. Allied to a minimum ground clearance of 215 mm, the 31-degree approach, 25-degree departure and 22-degree ramp breakover angles ensure the model’s off-road abilities.

Prado features the leading edge in safety with advanced technologi­es for safety performanc­e collective­ly known as the Toyota safety sense. This is the next stage of active safety technology and is designed for comprehens­ive integrated safety. Toyota safety sense is a bundle of active safety features that include dynamic radar cruise control system, pre-crash safety system, lane departure alert and automatic high beam. Prado also has airbags for the driver, passenger and curtain, side (front) and knee (driver only).
