US Embassy launches its annual ‘Discover America 2017’ campaign

MUSCAT: The US Embassy in Oman launched yesterday its annual ‘Discover America 2017’ campaign, a two-week programme designed to promote American businesses in Oman as well as to celebrate US-Omani partnershi­ps and bilateral ties between the people of the United States of America and Oman.

The US Embassy partners each year with Lulu Hypermarke­ts in Oman to promote American food products for the ‘Discover American Food Week.’

Now, in 2017, the embassy is partnering with Lulu Hypermarke­ts in Oman, Oman Avenues Mall, and the Oman American Business Center for two weeks’ worth of ‘Discover America 2017’ events and promotions to showcase the best of American brands and American heritage – and to ‘Bring a little bit of America to Oman’, as the US Embassy states.

The entire event kicked off with a special evening at the Sky Lounge Balcony on Oman Avenues Mall’s third floor, where guests were able to indulge in Americanst­yle canapés made with American ingredient­s from Lulu – the sponsor of the evening – and created by students from the National Hospitalit­y Institute. Stephanie Hallett, the Deputy Chief of Mission for the US Embassy in Oman, was present for the evening, which allowed for exclusive networking, the sampling of great food, and the enjoyment of breathtaki­ng views from the Sky Lounge Balcony.

The high point of the campaign will be on November 2, when Marc J. Sievers, US Ambassador to Oman, will inaugurate the ‘Discover America 2017’ classic car show with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Oman Avenues Mall.

This show will be a celebratio­n of famous ‘All American’ vintage and classic cars, muscle cars, and adventure-themed offroad vehicles, and will continue until November 4.

Famous brands like Mustang, Camaro, and Jeep Wrangler will be in the mix, and the US Embassy has also confirmed participat­ion from American automobile dealers who will showcase Ford, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and GMC vehicles, along with bikes from Harley Davidson, Polaris, and also a mobile motorhome from Oman Motorhomes. There will also be a showcase of vintage American cars from the Classic Car Club.

Lulu Hypermarke­ts will also run its ‘Discover America 2017’ campaign to promote the best of American products among customers in Oman. The event, which will be held across select Lulu outlets in Oman, will showcase a wide variety of products specially flown in from the United States, from November 5 – 12.
